Pier 14, San Francisco, CA

As part of the Downtown Ferry Terminal work that was undertaken for the Port of San Francisco, ROMA prepared the design of Pier 14, which is both a breakwater and pier/promenade and connects to the bulkhead wall and public spaces along the Embarcadero.  The head of the pier is marked by a gateway that enables it to be closed in evening hours.  It has become a focus of activity, by strollers, joggers, fishermen and people interested in viewing the panoramic setting and dramatic views of the bay and Bay Bridge.  The adjacent promenade which we also designed is used for significant public art installations.  ROMA also designed a unique stainless steel “chair” that swivels to allow 360 degree views.  In addition to design, ROMA was actively involved in helping support efforts for funding and other aspects of implementation.
