NEW COMMUNITIES

Lido Isle Neighborhood, Redwood Shores, CA

ROMA prepared a specific plan for a 150-acre site which is the last major undeveloped portion of the Redwood Shores peninsula located approximately 20 miles south of San Francisco.  The plan envisioned a residential island community surrounded by lagoons and open spaces with appropriate setbacks and buffering from adjacent uses, including power lines, radio towers and a sewage treatment plant.  The plan placed emphasis on the creation of a sociable, pedestrian-oriented community that is responsive to the traditions of successful waterfront communities found in other parts of California.  The community is organized around a highly visible and accessible system of waterways at the edges and is joined at the center by a boulevard with continuous landscaping and a centrally located park.  Pedestrian and bicycle linkages are created throughout the entire neighborhood, connecting areas to the north and west as well as the larger levee system to enhance recreational opportunities for residents and the community as a whole.  Through the integration of lagoons and open spaces with development, the plan serves to strengthen the overall structure of the larger Redwood Shores community, and contributing to the amenity and livability of the peninsula as a whole.
